“I have a long and (mostly painful) history with anything related to maths, and this started early on in my high school years, where I was told that I should, in my best interest, not pursue anything in math-related fields when thinking about my career. This mindset carried on into my university years, where I struggled to keep up with the course materials, had to resit exams multiple times, and honestly felt like giving up more than once. During my struggle, I tried to seek out all kinds of extra help beyond what the university could offer; be it notes that I’d bought online from previous students in my cohort/past cohorts, tutoring classes that would guarantee a pass and a refund if you failed the exam, private tutoring with friends who were patient enough to explain basic algebra to my unrelentingly chaotic brain. Although these tools helped to some extent, things took a drastic turn when I was referred to Anjali for her private statistics tutoring. I had signed up with her when I was studying for these monstrous exams: Measurement Theory and Assessment 2 and Statistics 2 (and Statistics 3 that is still in the works!). Studying for just one of these to success was something I could’ve never even imagined, let alone passing both courses with the best grades I could have dreamed to have, all because Anjali truly sparked and inspired a passion for me in Statistics. My 18 year old self is internally screaming right now because I’ve hated maths for as long as I can remember and thought I would be doomed to fail at it every time, but Anjali’s energy and teaching competence has turned my “I have to pass this course and forget about it forever” mindset into “wow Statistics can actually be really interesting and I actually kind of like it (a lot) now?”.
